To learn more about me below is my biography, a short list of my favorite novels, and my writing influences.
My Biography
I was born in 1982 which makes me a “Boomer Millennail,” a term I made up and like using. Most of my childhood and teenage years consisted of me playing video games and reading books (starting with comic books and then moving to regular fiction).
I am a Georgia native, still live in Georgia, and love living in Georgia.
During my teenage years I wrote stories, but they were horrible like most early writing is. By my senior year in high school I planned to get an English degree in college because that’s what authors did.
After graduating college with my English degree, I tried getting my books published traditionally, but didn’t get any traction. Looking back, my writing wasn’t good because of my poor character development skills. In addition, I wasn’t good at developing plots.
I took a break from writing from my late twenties to my early thirties. That break gave me the time to improving my writing style and techniques.
My Favorite Novels
“Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Bronte
“The Sound and the Fury” by William Faulkner
“The Fountainhead” by Ayn Rand
“The Heart is a Lonely Hunter” by Carson McCullers
“Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley
“In Dubious Battle” by John Steinbeck
Writing Influences
I thorough enjoy reading books those in the publishing industry deem as the “classic novels.” I’m on a mission currently to own all the books by my favorite classic novel authors from used book stores.
In additon to reading that genre, I also love reading Southern Gothic books and authors. Maybe it’s because I’m a Southerner. Or was it a class I took in college that introduced me to those writers? It was probably both.
